This is Love Your Library Month!

Hello Everyone,

February is the beginning of spring for people living and working on Captiva Island. I am fortunate to work in a lovely little island library. People tell us how much we are appreciated and how much we are loved everyday. They like our books, resources, and programs. The patrons cannot believe how friendly the staff and volunteers are in this wonderful place! Not every library employee in other libraries are as fortunate as Captiva library staff. I hope if you use another library, you will take time to tell other library employees how much you appreciate the library. They will enjoy hearing from you. It is Love Your Library Month! Please show them how much the library means to you. We like to think we are the heartbeat of the community.

I also like February because of Valentine's Day. When you go to the library this month, you can check out Valentine's books and books on friendship. Have fun singing this song with your little ones: Love, Love, Love (sung to the tune Three Blind Mice)

Love, Love, Love

See how it grows. See how it grows.

I love my friends, they love me.

We love each other that is plain to see.

There is plenty of love for a family.

Love, Love, Love.

Once you are at the nearest Lee County Library, look up these books on Valentine's Day and friendship: Bear in Love by Samantha Davis, My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall, The Day It Rained Hearts by Relicia Bond, The Best Thing About Valentines by Eleanor Hudson, Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli, Falling for Rapuzel by Leah Wilcox, and Squish Rabbit by Katherine Battersby. You can read the books at home.

After you are done sharing books at home, it can be time for a little snack. I like to make and share with my friends heart shaped Valentine's Day sandwiches. Here is the recipe. Cut out bread in heart shapes with a heart cookie cutter. If you do not have a cookie cutter, cut out a paper heart. Use the paper heart as a pattern and cut around this heart with a silverwear knife. Spread some cream cheese and berry flavered jam on the bread. Some flavors are strawberry, raspberries, and cherries. These berry jams will make your heart sandwiches a pretty red. The sandwiches are tasty too.

Happy Reading,

Ms. Naomi
