 Did You Know?

  • You may get a free library card on the Bookmobile.   You will need it to check out materials and can use the card at any branch of the library system.  Cards are free for anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Lee County.  You are responsible for all materials that are checked out using your card.
  • The Bookmobile visits neighborhoods and afterschool programs throughout Lee County on a biweekly schedule.  It has stops in Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Dunbar community, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, and Tice.  For a complete list of locations, click here.
  • You may check out library materials for two or four weeks.  Library staff will print a list of the items you have checked out with the day they are due.  You may return materials to any branch or to the Bookmobile.  There is no fine for late materials that you return to the Bookmobile.
  • Bookmobile customers can select from a broad range of materials.  The vehicle holds over 4,000 popular items including fiction and non-fiction titles for children and teens as well as adult materials, magazines, Spanish titles, DVDs, and materials to help people learn English.  Children’s books in both English and Spanish include titles for every age and reading level from toddler board books and picture books to beginning readers, chapter books, and a wide range of non-fiction titles.
  • You may request materials that are not on the Bookmobile.  If you don’t see what you want, simply fill out a request form for a title or subject.  Library staff will try to have your requested material when they next visit your stop.  You may also request materials by calling the office or sending an email:  533-4441 or bookmobile@leegov.com.
  • This is the library system’s fourth vehicle to offer Bookmobile service since the program started in l965.  Bought in 2008, the vehicle is 36’2” long, 12’8” tall, and weights 26,000+ lbs. fully loaded.  It has three air conditioners, a wheelchair lift, a diesel engine and generator, and a wireless computer connection.  The Bookmobile is a customized vehicle built on a Freightliner chassis.  It cost $280,795 and will be on the road for at least 15 years.
  • The exterior of the Bookmobile features Everglades-inspired graphics which reflect the unique environment that exists in south Florida.  It reminds us that our community is more than roads and buildings.  The Bookmobile’s exterior design received the 2009 Golden Image and Judges’ Awards from the Florida Public Relations Association.
