The Lee County Library System encourages residents to

“Register to Vote @ your library”

With free online access at the Lee County Library System, registering to vote this season is easier than ever. The Lee County Library System is offering all eligible voters the opportunity to register or update their voter registration information online directly through the library’s computer workstations. By registering online, library users will help raise funds to support library advocacy efforts nationwide. This online voter registration drive is part of the national “Register to Vote @ your library” program sponsored by the American Library Association and Working Assets.

Library users can register online at ALA’s Your Vote Matters Web site, www.yourvotematters.org/ala, which was created and customized by Working Assets. Once the registration process is complete, users will need to print out, sign and mail in their registration form. The deadline to register to vote in the August 31, 2004 primary election is August 2, 2004. The deadline to register to vote in the general election is October 4, 2004.

The library recommends that voters registering on the Your Vote Matters Website do so by September 15 in order to mail in the registration form by the deadline. Voters in all states except New Hampshire, North Dakota and Wyoming are eligible to complete registration via the Your Vote Matters Web site.

To ensure that library users are well-informed about the new electronic voting machines, the Lee County Elections Office Community Awareness Program will be conducting demonstrations throughout the Lee County Library System. Click here for a pdf of the entire schedule for these demonstrations at Lee County Library System locations. Visit the Lee County Elections Office website www.leeelections.com to view the entire calendar of events for the Community Awareness Program.
