Lee County Library System Honors Volunteers at Luncheon

Fort Myers, FL (March 14, 2006) - On February 9, the Lee County Library System (LCLS) held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The event celebrates the achievements of over 500 volunteers who contributed more than 21,000 hours or service to the library system at a cost-savings of $217,920 over the fiscal year.

All volunteers who provided 20 or more hours of service were invited to the luncheon but most had donated much more of their time. During this year:

·         176 gave up to 199  hours

·         Six gave 200-299 hours

·         Five gave 300-499 hours

·         Three gave over 500 hours (photo attachment #1)

The theme for this year’s event “Cheers for our Volunteers,” was carried through with pom-pom and megaphone centerpieces, a sports-theme power point presentation and the selection of Brian Simon as Master of Ceremonies. Simon, the husband of an LCLS librarian, had just retired after being voted “Best Local Sportscaster” for the fifth consecutive year. (photo attachment #2)

The luncheon included entertainment by a local senior dance troupe, presentations and recognitions of volunteers, advisory board members, and friends group officers. The celebration draws strong support and attendance from county administrative and elected officials, who were also recognized at the event.
