Florida Roadkill” selected as One Book, One Community Title

FORT MYERS, Fla., August 8, 2007 – “Florida Roadkill” breaks all the rules of traditional community reading projects.

”Many of our readers may be surprised by the content of this year’s selection,” said Lee County Library System Community Relations Coordinator, Heather O’Connell, “No library has ever announced a book like “Florida Roadkill” for a community reading project.”

The novel details creative killings by anti-hero Serge Storms, who dispenses his own warped variety of justice upon corrupt and contemptible characters.  No group is safe from Storms’ wrath or from author Tim Dorsey’s unmercifully hilarious satire.

Dorsey, a Tampa Bay area author, is a Southwest Florida Reading Festival favorite and is wildly popular with local readers, who selected “Florida Roadkill” for this project by a vote of 4-1 over any other title.

Why are readers selecting such a different book? Library officials have a theory:

“Libraries encourage people to read just for fun,” O’Connell said, “our readers have been doing that and now they’re ready to let everyone else in on what a good time they’re having.”

The library has a full slate of activities including visits with author Tim Dorsey.

About the Author

Dorsey draws on his rich experience as a police reporter, political contributor and metro night editor with The Alabama Journal and Tampa Tribune. He left reporting behind in 1999 to write full time. He’s the author of several wildly funny novels, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush, Triggerfish Twist, The Stingray Shuffle, Cadillac Beach, Torpedo Juice, The Big Bamboo and Hurricane Punch. His latest novel, Atomic Lobster is due out in January.

About the Book

Sunshine State trivia buff Serge loves inflicting pain. His drug addled partner Coleman loves cartoons. Hot stripper Sharon Rhodes loves cocaine, especially when purchased with rich dead men’s money. On the other hand, there’s Sean and David, who love fishing and are kind to animals – and who are about to cross paths with a suitcase filled with five million dollars in stolen insurance money. Serge wants the suitcase. Sharon wants the suitcase. Coleman wants more drugs . . .  and the suitcase. In the meantime, there’s murder by gun, Space Shuttle, Barbie doll, and Levi’s 501s. In other words, welcome to Florida!
