FORT MYERS, Fla., April 14, 2008 – Looking for a job? Free library resources can help.

“Every day our computers are filled with job hunters.  We are increasingly being asked to help people attach their resumes to e-mails,” – Sharon Myers, Manager, Cape Coral – Lee County Public Library

Libraries are seeing an increase in those looking for jobs, foreclosure information and government assistance, according to Heather O’Connell, Lee County Library System Community Relations Coordinator.

“These are difficult situations and the library can help by providing free information on getting through these tough times,” O’Connell said. Library-goers can pick up a “Resources for Job Hunters” brochure with job links and recommended titles. Library-goers can browse a large selection of books, CDs, DVDs and electronic resources on career choices, resume’ writing and interviewing skills.

Librarians also recommend the Peterson Testing and Education Reference Center (on the library’s website), which contains a variety of test preparation and study guides, including licensing exam preparation for:

Accountant/Auditor, American Foreign Service Officer,  Case Worker, Civil Service, Clerical, Corrections or Court Officer, EMT, Fire Fighter, Law Enforcement, Nursing (NCLEX), Postal and Realty exams.

“We see lots of people looking for test preparation for government jobs, the ASVAB, Post Office, etc.  Lots of GED books go out,” - East County Regional Library staff.

The resource also helps with entry exams for the military as well as Officer Candidate Tests, College and Graduate Entrance Tests, along with GED, High School placement and State Assessment test preparation. There are also sections about Distance Learning, Executive Education, Vocational, Technical or Information Technologies.

Access the Peterson Testing and Education Reference Center at the library or from any Internet Access computer with your Lee County Library System library card.  Visit the Lee County Library System website: www.lee-county.com/library, select Research and Homework, and click Databases A-Z.
