Fort Myers, FL; December 5, 2008 – Library Bookmobile Ribbon Cutting Event To Be Held

The Lee County Library System invites the community to join us for the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new library bookmobile on Thursday, December 11. The event is scheduled for 3:00pm at the African Caribbean American Center (AFCAAM) located at 3681 Michigan Avenue, Fort Myers.

The ceremony will feature speakers from the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, Lee County Library System, and AFCAAM. Special entertainment will be provided by the students of AFCAAM. Refreshments will be served and attendees are welcome to tour the Bookmobile.   

This is the library system’s 4^th vehicle to offer bookmobile since the program began in 1965. It replaces a Bookmobile built in 1991 which was retired after covering over 173,000 miles. The new vehicle is 36’2” long, 12’8” tall and weighs 26,000+ pounds when fully loaded.

Over 4,000 items, including books, DVDs and magazines, for all ages are carried on the bookmobile. The bookmobile visits between 26 and 30 locations throughout Lee County every two weeks; it serves an average of 19,000 residents, and circulates over 35,000 items, each year.
