2008 Summer Reading Schedule

Fort Myers, FL; May 14, 2008 - Kids, Tweens and Teens will find plenty of free, fun activities and incentives to read this summer at the library.

The stories in this popular show are Anansi and His Six Sons, (Africa), Coyote and the Laughing Butterflies, (Pueblo tribe southwest United States), Papagayo, (Amazon rainforest), and The Crocodile’s Tale, (the Philippines).

This live animal presentation includes turtles, lizards and even a crocodile. John Storms gives the children a lot of information about the animals and their environments, but in a fun way, with lots of humor. The grand finale is Julie, a big Burmese python. We’ll practice some fundamental rhythmic patterns like the tumbao of the conga, the martillo (hammer) of the bongo and the clave (key). We’ll add a coro (chorus) and our cojunto will be complete. Josh Levine is a bassist, vocalist and Venezuelan cuatro player from New York City.

Come as you are, and leave as part of a real “conjunto” or band with the skills needed to perform different styles of Latin American music: Son Cubano, Cumbia, Cha Cha. We’ll practice some fundamental rhythmic patterns like the tumbao of the conga, the martillo (hammer) of the bongo and the clave (key). We’ll add a coro (chorus) and our cojunto will be complete. Josh Levine is a bassist, vocalist and Venezuelan cuatro player from New York City.
