Many
times, the U.S. Mail Carriers go above and beyond to help these postal
customers, by placing their return labels correctly, bringing large packages to
the door and even reading the printed information on the packages, so these
customers know what they are receiving.
The
Talking Books Service relies on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver these free
materials, and these U.S. Mail Carriers play an important role in these
customers' lives. The letter
carrier to be honored was chosen from several nominated by patrons of the
Talking Books Library
Here are
excerpts from some of the nominations:
“My carrier Carol always makes sure my stacks of books are rubber banded together and brings everything right to my door. She will pick up packages for me and is always pleasant. She asks if she can do anything for me and asks about my family.”
“My carrier Rick rings the doorbell and then hand delivers all the mail to my door. He is always bubbly and happy, and I’ve even seen him carry groceries to the door for my elderly neighbors.”
“My carrier Valerie goes out of her way to help me and takes time to talk to me and answer all my questions. I am 90 years old and she is the BEST postal carrier I have ever had.”
This is
the second year for the Lee County Talking Books U.S. Mail Carrier of the Year
program. The Lee County Talking
Books Library provides access to more than 1 million titles of "Talking Books",
descriptive videos and other materials to those whose low-vision, blindness or disability does not allow them to read
standard printed books.
