Literacy Week at the Lee County Library System

FORT MYERS, Fla., September 1, 2009 - The week of September 8 – 12 has been designated as Literacy Week at the Lee County Library System (LCLS.) During Literacy Week all LCLS library locations will have a display of library resources that promote literacy as well as contact information for the local literacy provider groups.

According to the Literacy Volunteers of Lee County, “The best available data suggest that there are more than 90,000 Lee Country residents who can’t read or write English well enough to meet the basic demands of everyday life.”

The work of erasing illiteracy is critical to improving the quality of lives in our communities and everyone can help. We invite the community at large to join our efforts to bring solutions to this major issue that impacts our community’s quality of life. Please visit http://www3.leegov.com/library/literacy.htm for additional information or call Maria Palacio at 239 533- 4809.
