The Lee County Library System & Volunteers

The Lee County Library System recognizes that volunteers, working in conjunction with employed staff, are essential to the productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness of library services. The library system encourages Individuals to become partners in public service by volunteering within the organization. A volunteer’s contribution to the library system goes far beyond the actual work performed. Volunteers enhance the services that the library system provides to the public. By working together, volunteers and library staff accomplish great things.

What volunteer opportunities are available at the local library? Here's a sampling:

 

  • Coaching customers towards computer use comfort
  • Helping customers use the library's online catalog and other electronic resources
  • Greeting customers and demonstrating self-checkout machines
  • Shelving library materials and keeping the collection in good shape
  • Repairing damaged materials
  • Helping with mailings
  • Photocopying information
  • Typing labels
  • Preparing materials for library-sponsored events
  • Assisting library customers with their genealogy searches
  • Supporting new learners of the English language

    Please take the completed application to a library of choice and ask to speak with the branch volunteer coordinator to see if volunteer opportunities are available.

    Currently, the Lee County Library System is unable to accept applicants from outside of the United States due to the organization's restrictions on conducting national background checks. LCLS apologizes for this inconvenience.

Volunteer and Change Lives
 
The library system has embarked on a grant project to make a difference in the lives of older adults in our community. The Community Conversations Project trains volunteers to provide library programs for older adults in assisted living facilities, adult daycare programs, and at congregate meal sites. The project exposes elders to stimulating ideas and thoughtful discussion. We are looking for adult volunteers of all ages. Click here for more information.
