Volunteer and Change Lives
The library system has embarked on a grant project to make a difference in the lives of older adults in our community. The Community Conversations Project trains volunteers to provide library programs for seniors who have difficulty using a library. These activities take place in assisted living facilities, adult daycare programs, and at congregate meal sites. The project exposes elders to stimulating ideas and thoughtful discussion. We’re looking for adult volunteers of all ages who have
- friendly, outgoing personalities
- experience facilitating group discussions or are willing to learn
- a love of reading and a desire to share that enthusiasm
- the time and ability to commit at least eight hours/month after the initial training
- personal transportation to project sites
The project offers volunteers extensive training in these types of activities:
- understanding the aging process and working with older adults
- facilitating group discussions
- leading book and short story discussion groups
- facilitating reminiscence-based activities
- conducting adult storytelling sessions
- developing programs using library materials
If this sounds like a good fit for you, please complete the library’s volunteer application form and project form. To complete your application, do one of the following:
1. Submit the forms to your local library,
2. Fax them to 485-1100, or
3. Mail them to
